20th April 2020

Since the closure of Pearson Vue test centres due the coronovirus outbreak, operatives are unable to take the CPCS Renewal Test or the Health, Safety & Environment tests in order to upgrade to a Blue Card or renew a CPCS Blue Card.

As a result, CPCS and NOCN Jobcards have released an Emergency COVID-19 Card for anyone who is unable to upgrade or renew their red or blue CPCS cards due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The CPCS and NOCN Jobcards have recommended that employers and sites should be lenient on accepting cards that have expired from mid March onwards.

If your employer or site won't accept the expired card, then you can apply for a CPCS Emergency COVID-19 Card which will cost £15 and will be valid for 12 months.

There is more info on the NOCN website and you can apply for an emergency card online here.

You should check with your employer whether you need an emergency card, as it may not be nessesary for you to apply for one.

CPCS Red Card Holders

Can I apply for an Emergency COVID-19 Card?

You can apply for the emergency card if your CPCS Red card or Red Card Extension has expired or is about to expire and;

  • you have been registered for an NVQ but can't complete it due to COVID-19.

  • you have completed the NVQ but can't upgrade to blue as you are unable to take the touch screen HSE test.

How do I apply for the Emergency Card?

You can apply online here, NOCN Jobcards will call you on the phone number you provide to take payment of the £15 card fee.

Alternatively, you can download the form here, and email it to enquiries@jobcards.org

What do I do next?

Your Emergency Covid-19 Card will be valid for 12 months, in this time it is hoped you will be able to complete the NVQ in order to upgrade your card to a blue competent operator card. Please see our Plant NVQs section for more info on what the NVQ involves.

I haven't registered for an NVQ, can I get an Emergency Card?

If your red card has expired or is about to expire, but you haven't registered for an NVQ, you will need to register for the NVQ for each category you wish to upgrade to blue. Once you are registered your red card can be extended for a year so you can continue to drive the machine whilst you complete the NVQ.

Please see our Plant NVQs section for more info.
