Changes to Our Pre-Course Assessment Policy

At Western Plant Training, we have always aimed to offer a helpful, personal service and give every candidate the time and guidance they need to find the right training course or test.
As part of this approach, we have previously offered pre-course assessments free of charge. However, carrying out these assessments takes time, preparation and instructor availability. Unfortunately, we have experienced an increasing number of assessments where candidates have either not turned up or not gone on to book training or testing, meaning valuable time and resources are being committed without a confirmed booking.
To ensure we can continue providing a high standard of service to genuine customers, we are introducing a £50 +VAT fee for all pre-course assessments.
How Will the Assessment Fee Work?
The £50 +VAT fee will apply to all pre-course assessments and can be paid by bank transfer in advance or by cash on the day of the assessment.
The good news is that if you go on to book a training course or test with us, the full £50 +VAT assessment fee will be deducted from the cost of your booking.
This means the fee is not an additional cost for customers who proceed with their training or testing. It simply ensures that the time set aside for your assessment is valued and that we can continue offering this service to those who genuinely need it.
Why Are Pre-Course Assessments Important?
A pre-course assessment helps us understand a candidate’s existing experience and ability before recommending the most suitable training or testing option.
This is particularly useful for candidates who have some previous experience but are unsure whether they need further training or may be ready for an experienced worker test. It also helps us avoid recommending a course that may not be appropriate for the candidate’s current ability.
Our aim is always to provide honest advice and help customers choose the most suitable route for their needs.
Our Commitment to You
We remain committed to providing quality plant training and testing across Cornwall and Devon, with a friendly, professional service and recommendations based on each candidate’s individual experience.
This change allows us to continue dedicating the necessary time to pre-course assessments while making sure the process is fair and sustainable for our business and our customers.
If you would like to arrange a pre-course assessment or discuss which training course or test may be suitable, please get in touch with Western Plant Training. We will be happy to discuss your requirements and help you decide on the next steps.
